Power of Social Health: 30:30:30 Rule

group of friends around a bonfire

Today, I was meeting with a client who has a successful start-up and was so elated that he was out of town socializing at an event with not only his peers in his industry but also with people who were ahead of him in season and status.

It was like he surfaced from being "sheltered in place" and realized there is so much more!

His posture was tall and his energy was dynamic. "I feel so great! Maybe I should move here!" he shared excitedly. We talked about this for a while. And I reminded him of the 30:30:30 rule and that he doesn't need to move to achieve this feeling.

What is the 30:30:30 rule? I honestly don't remember where I learned this but when it is applied, it really helps with feeling connected and purposeful on many levels.

AWARENESS: Who do you hang out with? Try this ratio:

  • 30% are peers or equals in season and status

  • 30% are people behind you in season or status that you can positively influence, mentor and encourage

  • 30% are people who are ahead of you in season and status (where you want to be) so YOU can be positively influenced and encouraged to keep going.

This way you have the BENEFIT of:

  1. relating and bonding with others;

  2. mentoring and encouraging others; and

  3. learning and growing from others.

Being active in all three types of groups feeds your soul and your mind.

You will feel more connected and fulfilled however you can achieve this: in-person, on social platforms, or some other way.

What about the other 10%? Family. Hopefully, they are part of your other groups but sometimes they are not, so that is why it is important to be aware of your day-to-day influences and purposefully grow your social tribe using the ratio described above.

Please share if you like these types of tips, or this post.

Have a beautiful day!
